Finishing fifth in the men’s 1,500m at Tokyo 2020 was sufficient for Damian Warner. The 32-year-old athlete wrote history with the men’s decathlon gold medal. Warner became Canada’s first Olympic champion in the event, finishing with an Olympic Record of 9,018 points at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. He became just the fourth decathlete in history to break the 9,000 point mark. World record holder Kevin Mayer of France took silver with 8,726 points – the same as he did in Rio – with Ashley Moloney clinching bronze in an Australian Record of 8,649 points.
