McLaughlin beat her own world record, which she had set just a few weeks earlier, by 0.44 seconds in the final heat of her discipline at the 2021 Olympic Games. She crossed the finish line ahead of Dalilah Muhammad, who also fell short of the previous record. McLaughlin then secured the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay together with Muhammad, Allyson Felix and Athing Mu. ๐
