Lithuania’s Virgilijus Alekna claimed the gold medal at the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens in the men’s discus throw by breaking the Olympic record with his first throw of 69.89 meters.

Fast forward to Tokyo 2020 where reigning world champion Daniel Ståhl showed a powerful attempt of 68.90 metres on his second throw, and claimed Sweden’s first ever Gold medal in the event.
