The 1992 Summer Olympics, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, were a significant moment for the sport of badminton. It was the first time that badminton was officially recognized as an Olympic discipline. Five competitions are held (men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed). The first four disciplines have been part of the Games program since 1992, while mixed doubles was added in 1996. Badminton has now been part of the Olympic Games program for 28 years.
