At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Mayu Mukaida, representing Japan, achieved a remarkable feat by winning the gold medal in the women’s freestyle wrestling 53kg division during the finals. These Olympics marked her debut on the Olympic stage. She defeated Qianyu Pang of China who won the silver medal, by 4-5. Meanwhile Vanesa Kaladzinskaya and Bolortuya Bat Ochir shared the bronze medal.
